Stopped in after a long day of driving during a road-trip. Place is ok but certainly needs maintenance and some upkeep. Sign out front said private party but certainly no party. Staff was friendly and prices seem reasonable and, luckily, the food was great; Ordered Chicken Fried Steak which was delicious. The salad bar pretty much sucked though with little selection. Lastly, there were bugs flying around bothering us, yuck. Anyways, place needs some work but really isn't bad. I'd stop here again if I'm passing through because it's the food that matters most.

There are many other hotel choices in Dodge City. Be sure to check any of them before the Dodge House Hotel. From making the initial reservation to checking out we experienced difficulties. The "special" rate quote for the wedding party was more expensive than the online rate. When that was brought up to the front desk there was a debate as to what "extras" we were getting for our "special" rate, which had no extra benefits than the online rate. Finally we were given the Internet rate (well sort of, at check out one of the dates was the internet rate, the second day was not). We selected this hotel due to the large meeting area where our party (a large, loud group) could congregate and not disturb other guests. The outside temperature was in the high 90"s and the large general area was almost as warm as the outside temperatures. Our room had a sink area that was so small that you could not place even a toothbrush on the counter without it falling off. The beds were hard, but at least the A/C worked well. The manager was the epitome of rudeness, and ill manners, although the young ladies that worked the desk were nice and helpful. The free breakfast was marginal as were the half price appetizers. My advice "Get the Heck Out of the Dodge House" and don't ever step in the miserable place!

I pass through Dodge once a month and usually stay a few nights. I have tried this place twice and I'm going to stop coming here. The food quality will remind you of an elementary school cafeteria. I had the brisket sandwich this time and was very dissatisfied. Once again, the salad was gross and the mashed potatoes were as well. The service was ok. Not as good as my last visit a month ago. But it was tolerable. The atmosphere is quiet, dingy, and smells weird. They have a buffet some nights, but unless you like diarrhea, stay clear of it. The locals advised against this place. I should've listened. I will not come back.

I agree with Mikey A, I had a good meal here and if I should ever happen by Dodge again, I'd come back. Like Mikey I was passing through town and staying at one of the hotels adjacent to Dodge House. The weather was bad so I decided to stay local. The 2 star review gave me pause but the front desk staff recommended the restaurant so I decided to give it a try. I ordered the 12oz ribeye, with salad, baked potato and cole slaw. I like my steaks medium rare and this one was cooked perfectly right down to the grill marks. The salad was basic but fresh and the baked potato was exactly what I would expect from a restaurant in Kansas. Of course the sour cream came in a little plastic cup and the butter in those little foil / plastic things but the food itself was well prepared. The wine selections are limited - it's either Barefoot or Mondavi, but the Mondavi cab was just fine and a generous pour. One minor complaint, I ordered a desert to go...and without thinking and because it sounded weirdly interesting, I choose the Sweet Potato a la mode. As it turns out this consisted of 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream on a bed of slightly caramelized sweet potatoes with caramel topping over the ice cream and sweet potatoes. Generally ice cream deserts can't be taken away, and this one was liquid by the time I walked next door (it's August in Kansas, duh). My waitress probably should have recommended that I make another selection for take away. (That said, it was weird but tasty). Otherwise, given the multiple emergency flash flood warnings happening during dinner the wait was amazingly attentive. If you are in town and especially if you are next door at the La Quinta or the Holiday Inn express, dinner at Dodge House is worth a try for dinner.
Call me a new fan of chicken fried steak! We stopped in for lunch as we were getting out of Dodge (sorry....couldn't help myself!). We were the only two people in the restaurant at the time and wondered how the food would be; we had our doubts. The waiter recommended the chicken fried steak so we tried it and it was delicious, juicy and tender! And huge! The two of us could have (should have) split one plate but for the money you can't go wrong. Yes, it is deep fried but it's well worth the splurge if you happen to be passing through Dodge City. The decor is a bit dated and that is probably somewhat intentional given all the history in this town. The wall pictures and back room bar were all neat to see. Well worth a visit.

Food tasted good fresh bacon on the bergers but was a bit slow in coming seems like the kitchen was backed up the whole time we were there. Felt sorry for our waitress she was busting butt making sure everyone was taken care of. We would go back because the food was good and staff was nice.

We stopped in this restaurant on the way through Dodge city. The atmosphere is quaint but outdated. We ordered off the menu, there was a buffet but no one gave us any information about it. My husband and I both had the chicken fried steak. It was huge. However the size did not make up for the lack of flavor. We also had mashed potatoes and gravy, the gravy was okay but the mashed potatoes were lacking. They tasted sort of watered down. I get the feeling that this once was a hotspot but now just caters to the older crowd that likes to eat about 430 in the afternoon. The service was good though. However when we went in we were the only ones there.

First off, I'm having trouble understanding WHY, with all the restaurants and all the people eating in Dodge City, there are so few yelp reviews for this town. It seems there are only a few reviews for any one business. I suppose folks around here want to eat and then not think about it again. But as far as the Dodge House goes, we were apprehensive about eating here but left pleased and full. We had pulled in at the hotel a few doors down and wanted to eat somewhere within walking distance and we saw the Dodge House. We asked the desk man at the hotel if he had any opinion about the place and he said "some people say good things... others not so good." And with the one (and only) previous two-star review, we thought maybe we'd skip it. But a storm was headed this way and we ended up hoofing it to Didge House for dinner on a Wednesday. The place was not too busy - the bar was pretty full but the dining room had about six tables occupied. We were greeted pleasantly and the employees who passed our table we always friendly and helpful. The place was clean and attractively decorated and in good repair, but nothing fancy. I hadn't had a chicken-fried steak in a while so I ordered one from the back page of the menu, in a section described as "for the lighter appetite." It cost about half what the regular CFS cost. When the plate came I told the waitress hey, yo, I ordered the SMALL plate and she looked at me and said, "that IS the small plate." Unbelieveable. The steak and mountain of vegetables, potatoes and gravy could easily feed two hungry people. And it was great - fresh, crispy outside but still moist in the center, great gravy and way worth the price. My wife had some kind of steak salad that she said was one of the best ever, stating that she thought the warm and juicy steak in the salad was freshly cooked and not meat strips that had been sitting on the counter waiting to be ordered. Our water and tea glasses never even got close to being empty before a server filled us up and we were never left forgotten but always being checked to see if everything was good. So with the good service, the friendly people, the presence of other happy customers and the great, tasty food, I'd say this place is a good dinner spot well worth the visit. Their menu is the typical American/cowboy/family type with a great selection of items. We passed this place up the last time we were in Dodge City at the same hotel because we didn't see any decent reviews but I'll eat here again next time.

Looked like a normal steakhouse. I ordered a filet. It came out as a ribeye. They apologized and took it back. When they re delivered it was a folded over piece of the ribeye in the shape of a filet with a straight flat piece of bacon on the side. When I unfolded it and cut it they said it was "butterflied" to speed cooking time. That was B'S. They wanted to use the same steak. Beware.

OK, so i did arrive at about 10:45. I suspect the last arrival of the breakfast buffet material was about 9 AM. Perhaps it was wounded at this point if not dead on arrival. There was no way resuscitate most of it. I scraped the protective scab from the egg like substance and the internal color was very reminiscent of eggs. Contained chunks of ham and some kind of american cheese. I've heard it said that you can't mess up breakfast - these guys have a good start on changing that. The bacon was nice and relatively non greasy thanks to the nifty white bread absorption base. Perhaps the bread was to be consumed with the bacon for the full flavored experience. At least it still had the general appearance of bacon. A PLUS: everything was luke warm (i'm not sure if Luke wants to be associated with this experience - sorry luke) The luke warming backfired with the french toast. I've been around toasted french people who are much tastier. The proper term was french crust. One thing i can say for it is that if you slather enough warm syrup on it, the FT kinda started tasting like something meant for human consumption. Of course, it must also be noted that cardboard will taste like syrup as well and might have a bit more nutritional value... One star for still serving me breakfast. One more star for serving diet coke that distracted me from the obvious. If you go, go early in the process. Take preventative antacid ahead of time. Set the bar low and then maybe you'll at least break even.

Looking for a lunch spot on a recent and decided to give this one a shot. The place was fairly barren at lunch time which was a bit concerning. However, I was hungry, it was a restaurant, so game on. I had a Reuben sandwich which was quite tasty with a side of homemade onion rings (also tasty). Everything was freash and hot and the service was adequate but a bit slow considering the dearth of patrons. We did have a fun time watching the flies playing on the window sill but we found flies everywhere we went in Dodge (probably has something to do the feed lots, packing plants, etc). All in all, it was a good meal at a decent price with a nice decor. They probably pack em in on Sunday's here.

I had chicken fried steak and it was enough to easily feed 2 people, really really good though. Fiancé had shrimp alfredo pasta and was disappointed. We also had stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer that claimed to be "gigantic" but were smaller than we expected
